From Old Books
Monday, December 1st, 2008
I just stumbled on this site while looking for design reference for a friend’s web presence. It’s a gentleman named Liam who scans in pages from old books that live in the public domain (mostly) at high-res. Now, I love spending a Saturday afternoon in an old book store looking through woodcuts and ornamental typography as much as the next girl (or geek), but this From Old Books is the next best thing. Check it out!
Wool Felt Handbag

Continuing my obsession with all things wool felt. Here’s a lovely handbag at Elsewares.
Felt Wine Rack
Friday, October 3rd, 2008
While I already own a beautiful Rosendahl Wine Tube, I couldn’t help but swoon a bit when I saw this lovely wine rack from Branch Home in San Francisco. One can own enough wine to need more than one rack, right? Especially one like this that collapses easily when it’s not in use.
Even better, I bet I could make one. Hmmm.
Lovely Greenpeace ads
Thursday, August 21st, 2008Deserving of at least a small gasp…

The ads urge people to go sign a petition to save the seas. Sculptures are made of colored pencils.
Check out the artist, Jennifer Maestre.

While looking for some Arabic calligraphy samples for my SCA-related hobbies, I stumbled on Pascal Zoghbi, an Arabic type designer and typographer. He’s got a blog, which is brilliant and geeky, as well as a website. Check out this post on vintage metal movable Arabic type!

A brief history of the ampersand
Thursday, December 6th, 2007
The term ampersand, as Geoffrey Glaister writes in his “Glossary of the Book,” is a corruption of and (&) per se and, which literally means “(the character) & by itself (is the word) and.” The symbol & is derived from the ligature of ET or et, which is the Latin word for “and.”
Adobe feeds my habit. Check out this piece on the glorious ampersand, which delighted me whilst working late this evening.
