Modern Dance & Tribal Dance Fusion

Donna Mejia Choreography

I’ve seen a lot of things fused with tribal bellydance in my time. Some of it quite good (Urban Tribal, The Indigo’s take “Opa Cupa”, Zoe’s pop n’ lock stylings). Other’s not so good. But I’ll leave those unnamed. This piece caught my eye. It’s tribal bellydance-esque choreography, but executed by student’s who’ve obviously spent a lot of time in formal, modern dance school. It’s rather awesome. The choreographer is Donna Mejia, Guest Artist in Residence for Smith College.
